Lifespan Influenced by exposure toward different environment stimuli.
Research in fruit flies, Drosophila melanogaster, has shown that longevity can be regulated by many environmental factors such as temperature or diet components. However, the influence of social environment has been just begun to be explored. We are interested in the effects of different social partners on lifespan and stress resistance. Our recent data suggested that living with different social companions could lead to either beneficial or deleterious influences on fly health and aging. Future studies will focus on sensory and molecular mechanisms behind this lifespan modulation.關於黑腹果蠅的研究已經發現壽命受到許多環境因素的調控,例如溫度或飲食成分。然而,社會環境的影響還鮮少被探討。我們實驗室想要探討不同的社會夥伴對果蠅壽命和抗壓能力的影響。目前我們已經發現與不同的社交夥伴居住可能對果蠅的健康和老化產生有益或有害的影響。接下來我們將繼續尋找這種壽命調控的感知方式和其背後的分子機制。Social Behavior
Behavioral and genetic study of pre-mating isolation in fruit fly
In fruit fly, male individuals display a series of courtship behaviors before copulation. It has been always a challenge to dissect the composition and sequence of this courtship. We therefore collaborate with the Department of mechanical engineering to develop a new software to quantity specific courtship components automatically. The software would allow us to explore different courtship strategies performed by males under different genetics backgrounds or physiological conditions.公果蠅在成功與母果蠅交配前會有一系列的求偶行為來吸引母果蠅的注意,人工觀察這些求偶行為的組成及順序極為困難,我們因此和動機系合作開發了一個新軟體,來定量果蠅在求偶行為中的特定行為。透過這個軟體,我們希望能夠大量分析公果蠅的求偶行為,並探討不同基因及生理條件下果蠅所表現出的求偶策略。

Social Grooming
Altruistic behavior in mice.
Since most of the mice social behavior researches are focusing on the aggressive behavior ,while our lab wants to focus on something which have not been explored the "Social grooming". We are interested in social grooming is because of cleaning other mice is a kind of altruistic behavior while it seems like only benefit others. Then so on ,are wondering what motivates this kind of altruistic behavior. So ,we are trying to manipulate inner neuron signal pathway to induce the mice social grooming.
在過去的小鼠行為實驗當中,大部分都致力於研究小鼠的攻擊行為。然而我們的實驗室想要從不一樣的觀點下手,於是我們實驗室想要研究小鼠的「利他性理毛行為」,為什麼選擇利他性理毛行為作為研究目標?因為幫忙其他小鼠理毛這個行為就外界的觀點來說是一種單方向的利他行為。執行理毛行為的小鼠似乎沒有獲得任何的直接的回報。因此我們想了結,到底是什麼樣的原因或是機制誘發小鼠的利他性理毛行為。為此我們試圖調控小鼠的神經迴路來影響其理毛行為。
Social Ranking and Learning Memory
Discovering learning memory difference base on social ranking.
The dominance hierarchy is a common social structure associated with various phenotypes. Although social dominance in adults has been studied extensively in different species, social hierarchy in young animals has rarely been investigated. By using tube test, we established the first social hierarchy in young mice and surprisingly found better memory abilities in dominant mice. We are now trying to explore the molecular links and neural mechanisms underlying the correlations between social status and memory. Meanwhile, we also collaborate with the Department of Early Childhood Education to examine if there is a similar phenomenon in human children.社會階級是動物常見的社會結構並且影響各種行為生理的表現。 儘管社會階級在成年動物已經有相當廣泛的研究,幼年階段的社會階級則顯少被探討。透過鑽管測試(tube test),我們建立了第一個幼鼠的社會階級,並意外地發現社會階級較高的幼鼠具有較好的記憶能力。我們現在正嘗試找出階級與記憶之間的相關性與其中的神經機制。 同時,我們也與幼兒教育學系合作,探討人類兒童中是否也存在類似現象。Female Behaviors
Mounting behavior in female mice.
While social behaviors in male mice have been studied largely, the knowledge about social behaviors in female mice is still poorly understood. We previously applied the standard resident-intruder assay to examine female social behaviors systemically under different conditions, and surprisingly observed a significant amount of female-female mounting during social interaction. We are now try to explore the motivation as well as hormonal or neural mechanisms underlying this female mounting behavior.小鼠的社交研究過去大多以公鼠作為主要的的模式對象,而母鼠的行為研究則相對較少被探討。透過標準的居留者-入侵者實驗(resident-intruder assay),我們系統化的檢視母鼠在不同環境或是對象的社交互動,意外地發現母鼠與母鼠之間有大量類似公鼠的交配(mounting)的行為。我們目前正努力去探索此行為背後的動機及其荷爾蒙或神經機制。Publications
